So on empty stomachs we started out. This morning it was six kilometers, or a one and a half hour walk to the next town. The sky was clear and the air was cold and still, perfect for wearing lots of clothing and feeling comfortable. The cold caused us to have a quick pace. In a little over an hour we were in Carrion de los Condes. There the bar was open. Still we had no food, but at least there was hot coffee. We pulled out some croissants that we luckily had stashed in our packs the day before.

The road before us today was famous: seventeen kilometers of flat nothingness. A killer in the summer time, as it had no shade. For us it turned out to be nowhere near as bad as forecast. Flat, yes indeed, but a few young trees had been planted. On this spring day there was green wheat grass as far as you could see. The weather was great, sunny and cool.
